Our Mission in Action
Catholic Social Services is the social outreach agency of the Archdiocese of Wellington. Guided by the principles of recognising the dignity of every person, prioritising the needs of the most vulnerable, and strengthening connected communities, we work alongside individuals, families, and communities to support wellbeing and connection.
Our work includes social work advocacy, support and short-term interventions, programmes such as Seasons for Growth and Game On!, prison and hospital chaplaincy, refugee home preparation and clergy healthcare coordination.
We welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
Our History
We have supported communities across the upper South Island and lower North Island since the 1960s. Our early work focused on adoptions, residential care for young people and emergency housing. As needs have changed so have our services. In 2016, we expanded to include prison and hospital chaplains and clergy care. Since 2017, our offices have been located alongside the Compassion Soup Kitchen at 132 Tory St, Wellington.
