New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops, including Archbishop Paul, have published a statement ahead of the November 7 General Election.
The Bishops’ statement reminds Catholics that voting is a moral and civic responsibility and should not simply come down to personal preference.
The Bishops’ statement does not endorse particular parties or candidates, but instead encourages people to think about their choices through a Gospel lens and with Catholic Social Teaching and Christian values in mind. It especially encourages people to consider the dignity of the human person, solidarity with one another, the rights of religious freedom and conscious, preserving human faces and voices, and care for our common home.
You can read the statement below.
Let us pray that, no matter who wins the election, they can act for the good of people and reflect the teachings of Christ.
